Look how my garden has grown!

Hi everyone, it’s Mrs Toner and Betty the dog blogging today. It really is lovely to see all the wonderful work you are sending to Miss Swales so well done and keep it up.

Since I took you for a quick look around my garden my flowers have really started to bloom. I have even had some beautiful bluebells flower in my front garden. Miss Swales saw bluebells on her walk in your Science lesson if you can remember.

My Pansies are very colourful and in full flower too, take a look.

Can you remember the potato seedlings that we had delivered to school? Well I planted them in my vegetable patch and they have started to grow too. You can see on one of the pictures how much they have grown. I wonder how many potatoes will grow under the soil? Why don’t you make a prediction?

Well that’s all for now, I’m off to take Betty the dog out for her daily walk (in the rain!!) I miss you all and hope to see you all very soon

Phonics

Hi Everyone

If you haven’t already done Monday’s phonics lesson then please make sure you do it. Phonics is a crucial part of year 1 as it helps children to improve their reading and writing. Learning new sounds will enable children to move up onto higher book levels as they will be able to decode more words. It also helps children to improve their spelling. Phonics is a lesson children will be able to do independently.

🌺Science Competition

As you know, Year 1 love a good competition!  So at my house I’ve got 3 child admission tickets to Eureka (worth £41.85) up for grabs!

We have decided to give them to the family whose child does the best science work over the next few weeks!

To be in with a chance of winning you have to:

– complete all of the Science lessons.

– have beautifully presented work (your child’s personal best)

– your diagrams/pictures must be your own work.

-give explanations with your diagrams.

We will announce the winner after we have finished the science unit!
Good luck everyone!

Phonics

Your first phonics lesson is now available to get started on Monday. Phonics is a really important lesson as it teaches children how to read and write.

We will be teaching 3 new sounds a week on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. These lessons are about 20 minutes long and children will need a pencil or pen and something to write on, as the activities are within the lesson.

On Tuesday and Thursdays, children can revise the previous days sound if they need extra practise or they can complete the activity linked to that sound.

Most children in Y1 are on phase 5 phonics but if you are unsure what phase your child is on then please email me.

Emailing and Work: Important Message

Hi Everyone,

We were thrilled to have received lots of wonderful learning last week and know that many of you are working really hard.  Here’s some information about the lessons and work that we would like to be emailed.

All of the lessons are in order and build upon each other. Therefore please don’t skip lessons. If you can’t complete your work on the day that it says, then it’s ok to take a break and start from the lesson you got up to. The lessons are staying on Virtual School so it doesn’t matter if you fall a few lessons behind. Work at your own pace in a way that fits in with your family life.  If you are unsure about any of the work set then please send us an email and we will be happy to help you.

Maths: You do not need to email the White Rose Maths sheets. It is very time consuming for you and you have the answers to check for yourselves. It is important to do the lessons but you can do this by reading the questions and getting your child to tell you the answers.  If you wish to print them out then you can for your own use but we do not need to see evidence of this.
We would like you to email us the children’s written responses to the challenges if they get on to them. Then we can give feedback on the children’s answers.

English: We would like to see children’s English work. You don’t have to email us every piece of work but you can if you want and we will be pleased to see it. This again will allow us to give some feedback on the children’s work.

Science and History: Science is a core subject like Maths and English so please try to do these lessons. History is equally as important as it has been carefully planned across the year groups so that each year builds on the next. We would love to see some neatly presented science and history work emailed to us.

For all subjects but particularly in Science, there are some activities where we want children to draw diagrams and pictures. Please make sure that the work emailed is your child’s own work. It is ok for parents to show children on a separate piece of paper how to draw these things but the work we receive needs to be your child’s work.

However, we do recognise that we have some very talented artists amongst our parents so thought it would be a good idea to have a section on our blog for you. Each week, if you want to, you can also have a go at these drawing tasks with your children. You show them how to do it and they have a go. Then you can email us both yours and your child’s pictures. It would be lovely to see some parent artwork and I’m sure the children would enjoy having you join in with them too.

We will be blogging learning from the week every Friday. In order to prepared for this, we ask that any work be emailed to us by 3pm Friday. Any work emailed after 3pm will unfortunately miss out of being blogged.

We look forward to hearing from you all this week. Happy learning everyone!
